Stephen Ministry

Bear one another’s burdens

and so fulfill the law of Christ.

— Galatians 6:2

We’re brought up to be strong, self-sufficient and independent people. We tend to think that asking for help is a sign of weakness. We try to keep our struggles hidden and stuffed deep inside. However, that’s not God’s plan. God wants us to care for others—and allow others to care for us in our time of need. Loving and caring for one another is not just the pastor’s job—it’s something Jesus calls us all to do! Stephen Ministry is a ministry in which people with special gifts for caring can put their gifts to use in an organized way, bringing the healing power of Christ’s love to those who need it most.

Stephen Ministers are members of Woodridge Baptist Church who have completed over 50 hours of training to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to people who are facing a crisis or are simply stressed by everyday life.  A Stephen Minister meets with his or her care receiver once a week for about an hour to listen, care, pray and provide emotional and spiritual encouragement. Stephen Ministers are always matched with the same gender and the caring relationships last for as long as care is needed. Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry, so those receiving care can rest assured that their personal information and identity will remain private.  If you or someone you know is facing a crisis—large or small—and could benefit from the caring presence of a Stephen Minister, contact a Stephen Leader today.  Our Stephen Ministers are ready to bring God’s love and care to those in need.

These needs include but are not limited to…
