Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry aims to provide Christ care to people – through people – by developing personal relationships, showing Christ’s love and helping those in crisis know that no one need walk through life’s challenges alone.

Stephen Ministry is performed one-on-one, in a developing relationship between a trained lay Stephen Minister and an individual going through a life crisis.  The Stephen Minister is challenged to provide uniquely Christian care and encouragement to those hurting or in an extended period of crisis, within a structured and confidential environment.

The Woodridge family will be regularly informed of the details concerning Stephen Ministry and how those in crisis can be helped by the one-on-one encouragement and care provided by Stephen Ministers.

The Leadership Team of the Woodridge Stephen Ministry have each  completed the requisite 50+ hours of training necessary to become Stephen Leaders and will continue to develop this ministry within the Woodridge family.  They will recruit, select, train and supervise the men and women from our congregation who commit to serve as Stephen Ministers.  The Woodridge Stephen Ministry Leaders are Associate Pastor-Jerry Cronan, Judy Waldrup, Vicki Roper, Kaye Reviere, Jenise Cronan, Jean Haddock, and Natasha Morrison.

Woodridge offers a training class for Woodridge laypeople committed to becoming Stephen Ministers each September.  Classes provide 3 hours of training weekly over the course of six months fulfilling the requisite of 50+ hours of training before individuals may serve in Stephen Ministry.  After completion of the training, Stephen Ministers are ready to assist those who submit an application for a longer-term encourager as they deal with their life crisis.

For more information regarding Stephen Ministry, please contact Jerry Cronan, Associate Pastor in the church office or speak with one of the Stephen Leaders listed above.
