MISSIONS MINISTRY
The purpose of the Woodridge Missions Ministry is to reach out beyond the walls of our church to share Christ.
LOCAL MISSIONS
Local opportunities take place throughout the year and are a great way to serve and reach communities across our city, and even our nation.
Our schools are such important parts of our children’s lives and we want to help love kids and love teachers!
- Kids Hope – We partner with Kid’s Hope to mentor children at Hidden Hollow Elementary. This is a great program that can be summarized by One Kid, One Hour, Once a Week. Mentors may play games, read, complete a craft or just spend time with their student each week. Contact Debbie Dillard for more information.
- Adopt a Teacher – We partner with Riverwood Middle School to adopt their staff. We pair church members with school staff so they will be encouraged through prayer, small gifts, and check-ins throughout the school year. Contact Frances Harris for more information.
- CRU – We partner with CRU for Middle School / High School bible studies. The mission is to reach lost teenagers with the Gospel on their terms and usually on their turf – the school campus by holding outreach events and bible studies to reach students and their friends. Contact Susan Cox for more information.
Community and taking care of one another is an integral part of our local mission efforts. We work to wrap around vulnerable families through meal support, meeting tangible needs as they arise, prayer and encouragement.
- Sleep in Heavenly Peace – Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a non-profit organization; they’re about building beds and delivering them to children who don’t have a bed to call their own. They have over 300 chapters in 47 states with volunteers dedicated to building, assembling, and delivering hand-built bunk beds to children and families in need. SHP is the ONLY charity that builds hand-made bunk beds for children and their goal is to give them more than just a bed but dignity, comfort, and peace of mind. Their motto is “No kids sleep on the floor in our town!” The local Houston SHP chapter built and delivered just over 2,000 beds last year, and is aiming for 2,400 beds in 2025. There are almost 8,000 kids on the waiting list. If you would like to learn more about this organization and the volunteer opportunities, please contact Kevin Nance. Contact Kevin Nance for more information.
- N.E. Houston Foster Closet – We maintain a closet for foster/adoptive families to shop from as needs arise. The closet also provides placement packs for those receiving an emergency placements. We work with Family Promise to host families struggling with homelessness once a quarter. We provide a safe place to stay, meals and fellowship while they are here. Hosting weeks will display on the Missions Events page as we approach those dates.
- Embrace Grace – We partner with Embrace Grace to offer a weekly Bible study/support group for our young moms dealing with unplanned pregnancy. In addition, we take care of tangible needs, provide meal support and prayer/encouragement. Contact Candace Shotts for more information.

INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS
Woodridge has a robust short-term international mission trip program. Each year, we host eight to ten trips to locations around the world. In partnership with a variety of organizations, our teams serve in many ways on the mission field, including direct evangelism, medical and eye care, construction projects, and relationship building. Through the International Mission Board, we travel annually to Japan and Central Asia. We partner with Compassion in the Dominican Republic, Church Missions Network in Zambia and Kenya, and Good News in Action throughout Latin America. We also work alongside independent church planters in Mexico, Northern Ireland, and Germany.
International Mission Board
The IMB is the mission sending organization for the Southern Baptist Convention. It deploys approximately 3,500 full time missionaries into some of the hardest countries around the world. We partner in two of those countries.
We partner with IMB missionaries in Osaka, Japan to reach one of the largest unreached populations in the world. With less the 1% having heard the Gospel, Osaka is in desperate need. These trips are spent exploring the city’s ultra-modern streets and developing contacts for local missionaries. For more info about upcoming opportunities, please

We partner with IMB missionaries to minister to an unreached minority people group living in a Muslim-majority nation. On these trips you might spend a few hours having tea in someone’s home who has never heard about Jesus, or you could prayer walk down thousand year old streets. Compassion
Compassion is a well known, global child sponsorship organization that seeks to release children from poverty in Jesus name. They do this by partnering with local churches to host child development centers, where sponsored children receive education, food, health care, and a safe place to grow. In 2020 Woodridge sponsored the launch of a child development center in a church on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. Since then over 200 children have been sponsored.
Woodridge has started a brand new program with Compassion International in the Dominican Republic. This ministry helps serve an extremely poor community by providing discipleship, education, meals, and medical resources to families. Our teams will work alongside local believers to supplement the ministry taking place within the Compassion International program. For more info about upcoming opportunities, please

Church Missions Network
Church Missions Network exists to disciple indigenous believers to plant multiplying churches to take the gospel to the unreached. They serve in 12 different African countries and are expanding their reach into Latin American in 2026. We serve with them conducting evangelism trips in Zambia and Kenya.

We partner with GNIA because of their exceptional reputation and track record in planting and strengthening churches. Our short term teams will engage is direct evangelism in communities where GNIA is seeking to expand.
Independent Church Planters
Woodridge has a long history of working in Mexico. Partnering with full time missionaries, Lynn & Sandra Sasser, we have held hundreds of eye care clinics from Mexico City to the Toluca valley and from those clinics many churches have been planted and many more strengthened. Today we continue to build on the foundation laid by Lynn & Sandra continuing to work with indigenous pastors and church planters.
Matthew Boubel serves in Northern Ireland and focuses on youth and college age adult discipleship for the strengthen of local churches.
Julio Marza is a church mobilizer and evangelist working in Nuremburg Germany and Split Croatia. His ministry focuses on college age and young adults, helping them to engage their culture and deepening their commitment and involvement in the Lord’s work.

CHURCH PLANTING
Church planting is an important part of our Missions ministry.
BE A KIDS HOPE MENTOR
If you have a passion for working with kids, you should consider being a Kid’s Hope mentor! Our mentors serve at a local elementary school for one hour each week. As a mentor you might spend your hour reading, talking, or playing games with at-risk students. This is a ministry that has a huge impact on our community. If you would like more information about serving, please contact Heather Wolf.
